Word Up

Oops, try again. It looks like word is set to "w" instead of "help".

pyg = 'ay'

original = raw_input('Enter a word:')
word.lower()
first = original[0]
if len(original) > 0 and original.isalpha():
print original
else:
print 'empty'

Replace this line with your code.

Hi @pythoncoder35,

This statement does not actually convert the user's input to lowercase ...

    word.lower()

This will do it ...

    word = original.lower()

Also, this ...

    first = original[0]

... should be ...

    first = word[0]

However, with the above corrections having been made, these two statements should be moved to the if block ...

    word = original.lower()
    first = word[0]

Place them right after this line ...

    print original

This is the validation line that needs to follow immediately after the input.

Now that you have moved past the first couple of lessons, you no longer need to print original so that line may be removed. The other two lines will be inside the if block.
