Help! code seems to work but won't apply to translator

I'm not sure why my code isn't working, its "passing" me however the translator just prints my raw inputs and doesn't apply any of the functions. Here is my final code not sure what I'm doing wrong. Please help I'd really appreciate it!

pyg = 'ay'

original = raw_input('Enter a word:')

if len(original) > 0 and original.isalpha():
word = original.lower()
first = word[0]
new_word = word + first + pyg
new_word = new_word[1:len(new_word)]
print original

print 'empty'

write print new_word instead of print original

You are suppose to print the "new_word" in the end, not the original word, because that would simply repeat what the user said back.
