Header keeps disappearing when I set position to fixed

Here's my HTML

	<div class="nav">
		<h2 class="nav"><a class="nav" href="">Home </a><a class="nav" href="">Browse </a><a class="nav"  href="">Sale </a><a class="nav" href="">Sign In/Sign Up </a><a class="nav" href=""> About Us </a><input type="text" name="search" placeholder="Search.."> <a class="nav" href=""><img class="nav" src="Shopping cart 3.png"></a></h2>
	</div>

This is my css

.nav {
	z-index: 10000;
	background-color: black;
	width: 100%;
	height: 2.3em;
	position: fixed; /* WHY IS THIS MAKING THE H2 DISAPPEAR*/
	font-family: 'Raleway', serif;
	text-align: center;
	text-transform: uppercase;
	font-size: 112.5%;
	word-spacing: 0.75em;
	top: 0;
	left: 0;
	right: 0;
}

It gets rid of the H2 element. Please help me, Thanks.
