Having trouble with the $ 1s promt saying "bash: 1s: command not found"

I just downloaded git bash for the data scientist career path and every time I try to enter “1s” on the prompt line in front of the $ I get the error message “bash: 1s: command not found” so it doesn’t even pull up the directory. I’m stuck guys someone please help!

That is because the command is not, 1s, but ls. The characters look very similar but for one subtle difference. Just know that no commands begin with a number.

What character is that?

My friend, the command is ls, which is LS but lower cased.

I had the same issue.
Thanks so much for posting. The font on codecademy showed the 1 with the bottom line like a typical number one. The letter “l” or “L” does not look the same. So, it was the proof reader’s fault forgetting noobs would not understand the difference. This happens a lot in these sort of online lessons. Now I don’t feel like I’m crazy and did something wrong when downloading Git Bash.
