Non-ascii characters tend to cause that, colons seem to be commonly replaced by some other character.

If you're on linux/mac you can use this to find non-ascii in text:

grep -Pn '[^\x00-\x7f]' yourfile.py

The regex reads as: "any character not in range [0-127]" which is the values of ascii
