For "?" in ""

I’m having a little trouble understanding this… when using the “for” command… what is the first variable used? For example, it says to use “for 'word” in webster" for the second exercise, but there’s no variable created for “word” and I’ve yet to see an explanation for the this first part of… when defining the first “for”, what do you put in there?

For the second part it’s clear, it’s simply referring back to a list or dictionary… but I still don’t understand what it’s putting for the first “for”.

In the second exercise it even used the “word” as an index when printing, which makes it even more confusing. What is the meaning of that part of the syntax and how is it used?
