What the difference if you use return in this exercise?

Where would you want to use return in this exercise?

Remember that echo just outputs to the console or browser where return returns a value at the end of a function.

So if you use return at the end of this exercise, you’ll notice that nothing prints to the browser, and so we need to use echo in order to print to the browser.

In the exercise to this section “Pass by reference”, the requirement “that it permanently changes the variable it’s invoked with” was not stated clearly in the instructions. I had to click the “hint” section below to find out what I did wrong. This made me spend more time on this number.

Please include this important detail on the original instructions otherwise it will be very confusing.
