Explanation of Returns , in python

#1

please can someone explain to me in simple terms ; Returns. in the python course

https://www.codecademy.com/paths/data-science/tracks/dspath-functions-and-logic/modules/dspath-python-functions/lessons/intro-to-functions/exercises/returns

#2

the examples in the lessons are pretty good:

def divide_by_four(input_number):
    return input_number/4

result = divide_by_four(16)
# result now holds 4
print("16 divided by 4 is " + str(result) + "!")

return is literally what is says, handing back a value to the function call
