My error message says
Oops, try again. It looks like new_word contains "zachzay" instead of "achzay"!

. pyg = 'ay'

original = raw_input('Enter a word:')

if len(original) > 0 and original.isalpha():
    word = original.lower()
    first = word[0]
    print original
    new_word = word + first + pyg
    new_word[1:len(new_word)]
    print new_word
else:
    print 'empty'

#2

you take a slice here:

new_word[1:len(new_word)]

but you don't store the result of the slice anywhere:

example = "hello world"
example[0:5]
print example // would output hello world
example = example[0:5]
print example // would output hello

see how you need to store the slice? Or you can print it directly

#3

Cool thanks I got it. Very nice explanation.
