Currently work as Mechanical Engineer, wanting to change to data

Hi All,

I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering and am currently debating changing career.
I have found a real interest for programming through codecademy and I’m currently working through the Python course with a plan to move to the data courses after.

I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar change in career experience?
If so has anyone got any tips for me?

Thanks

Hey there! Congrats on considering a career change.

It’s a big decision, but you’re definitely in good company. Here are a few other learners who decided to make the switch. I hope some of these threads help you as you continue to weigh the pros and cons:

We’ve said this in the past to career switch planners… Don’t stray too far from your field and find ways to implement what you learn with respect to that discipline. The learning is faster, the exploration more familiar and the feeling of genuine success much more rewarding. There is plenty of room for a data scientist or statistician with programming skills in the Mechanical Engineering field. Use what you know, and build upon it to grow a larger foundation, then let the spiral take upwards to where the inventive fuels spill over and react.
