My suggestion would be, it doesn’t matter how good the sql queries and insights are if it can’t be visually digested. Aesthetics matter a lot in presentations. So you’re looking for concise information that’s easy to look at. Sometimes bosses are really only going to have so much time to look at something and if the presentation looks clunky they might just brush it off. (Though it does depend on the client.)
Though unrelated to sql, this video on css typography does a great job showing how a few visual tweaks in text can really help things become clearer. It only takes a little more extra work to make a presentation look presentable but the extra effort can really open your reader up to what you’re telling them.
