The coding box says that there is a syntax error....It says that the colon in [1:(len.new_word)] is an invalid syntax, however the instructions say specifically to do so...?

pyg = 'ay'

original = raw_input('Enter a word:')

if len(original) > 0 and original.isalpha():
    word = original.lower()
    first = word[0]
    new_word = word + first + pyg
    new_word = [1:len(new_word)]
    print original
else:
    print 'empty'

It looks like you might be writing it wrong. Try it like this.

  new_word = new_word[1:len(new_word)]

Also, you'll want to print new_word, not the original.

okay thank you... :slight_smile:
