Question

Can the justify-self and align-self properties be used to allow an item to overlap another item or items?

Answer

No. The justify-self and align-self properties control the position of a grid item within a grid item’s own cell. For example, justify-self will only place a grid item horizontally within the column that contains that grid item. Likewise, align-self will only place a grid item vertically within the row that contains that grid item.
