Can someone please explain what the instructions are trying to say it is confusing

I am confused on what it is trying to say can anyone explain it please? The instructions are confusing to me.

the code is pretty much there? from the instructions:

total to the sum of meal + meal * tip

all the variable you need (meal + meal * tip) are given, this will calculate the sum (total cost) which you can assign to total
