Calculation not returning float value

could someone tell me why this simple division operation does not return an accurate answer and discards the fractional result? From what I've read online floor division should only occur if the // division sign is used. But when I divide this sum in either the codeacademy exercise or the codeacademy labs platform, it always defaults to a floor division result.

print 17/3

#instead of...

print 17/3

You must do float division to get a float outcome in Python 2.

You were most likely reading about Python 3.
