Building a Cash Register 7/7

#1

it looks like everyone did that exercise same way (with small differences in a mathematic method for applyStaffDiscount) and I'm pretty sure it's all correct - but the outcome is (same with guy named "permalink")
13.74

and that is rad!!!

how can it be more than before discount (was 8.55)

codecademy let me pass it - and this is rad as well....

I'm not a mathematician but it should be 6.84 and it is some random 13.74

WTF?

please help, as I'm about to lose my mind

function StaffMember(name,discountPercent){
    this.name = name;
    this.discountPercent = discountPercent;
}

var sally = new StaffMember("Sally",5);
var bob = new StaffMember("Bob",10);

// Create yourself again as 'me' with a staff discount of 20%
var me = new StaffMember("Jan",20);

var cashRegister = {
    total:0,
    lastTransactionAmount: 0,
    add: function(itemCost){
        this.total += (itemCost || 0);
        this.lastTransactionAmount = itemCost;
    },
    scan: function(item,quantity){
        switch (item){
        case "eggs": this.add(0.98 * quantity); break;
        case "milk": this.add(1.23 * quantity); break;
        case "magazine": this.add(4.99 * quantity); break;
        case "chocolate": this.add(0.45 * quantity); break;
        }
        return true;
    },
    voidLastTransaction : function(){
        this.total -= this.lastTransactionAmount;
        this.lastTransactionAmount = 0;
    },
    // Create a new method applyStaffDiscount here
    applyStaffDiscount: function(employee){
        this.total = this.total - (this.total*(employee.discountPercent/100));}

};

cashRegister.scan('eggs',1);
cashRegister.scan('milk',1);
cashRegister.scan('magazine',3);
// Apply your staff discount by passing the 'me' object
// to applyStaffDiscount
cashRegister.applyStaffDiscount(me);

// Show the total bill
console.log('Your bill is '+cashRegister.total.toFixed(2));

lets do the math, we buy 3 magazines (3 * 4.99), 1 egg (0.98) and 1 milk (1.23), which is a total of:

17.18

then we give 20% discount for employee, so that leaves us with 13.74

doing the math, i don't see a problem?

nevermind - my mistake - in a previous version it was 3 x chocolate - and now it's 3 x magazine - which is more expensive and that's where supposed mistake was born - sorry for a topic -

#4

it's stupid anyways - why would codecademy change items in a middle of an exercise - it's a bug - and I've lost at least an hour trying to fugure out where is the mistake - code is quite long though

btw thanks for quick reply, I figure that out in a same moment when you were writing your answer - but appreciated
cheers!
