Adding value to a variable without calling it again?

is there a way to add to a variable without calling it itself to evaluate to its current value?
this_value = this_value + new_added_value
do I have to call this_value or is there another way to do it?

Which language are you referring to? This is possible in several languages, usually by:

this_value += new_added_value

but this does not work in all languages, so it really depends on that.

Python and ya, that’s it. For some reason I was under the impression it would only work on strings, not sure why. That helps, thanks!
