Access Rights Error trying to push to a remote repository

Im working on the getting started with Git and github section trying to push the git_practice folder to my github account.

I keep getting this error whenever i try to push:

ERROR: Permission to newUser/git_repository.git denied to oldUser.
fatal: Could not read from remote repository.
Please make sure you have the correct access rights
and the repository exists.

oldUser is a github account i originally had connected to with git on my PC, but I’m not understanding why its trying to access oldUser.

I have configured the newUser account globally with the newUser’s email and username. I also deleted the oldUser’s credentials from Windows credential manager.
When I run the command “git remote -v”, its referencing the newUser’s github account.

Anything else I can do to resolve this issue?

A quick search seems to suggest this happens to a few folks when their credentials are saved somewhere on the device. Removing them seems to differ by OS so it’s likely easiest to hunt down the correct info for yourself. You’d be looking for something like credential manager in windows and keychain in OSX (though this may depend on the version).
