you misspelled the word variance when you created your function i.e def grades_std_deviation(variation) <=

try to investigate the following code. it works:
def grades_std_deviation(variance):
return variance ** 0.5 # do not forget to intend this line
variance = grades_variance(grades)
print grades_std_deviation(variance)
