5/7 What's wrong?

#1

This is my code I can't fine anything wrong.

var cashRegister = {
total:0,
lastTransactionAmount:0,
//Dont forget to add your property
add: function(itemCost) {
this.total += itemCost;
this.lastTransactionAmount = itemCost;
},
scan: function(item,quantity) {
switch (item) {
case "eggs": this.add(0.98 * quantity); break;
case "milk": this.add(1.23 * quantity); break;
case "magazine": this.add(4.99 * quantity); break;
case "chocolate": this.add(0.45 * quantity); break;
}
return true;
},
//Add the voidLastTransaction Method here
voidLastTransaction: function() {
this.total -= this.lastTransactionAmount;
}
};

cashRegister.scan('eggs',1);
cashRegister.scan('milk',1);
cashRegister.scan('magazine',1);
cashRegister.scan('chocolate',4);

//Void the last transaction and then add 3 instead
cashRegister.voidLastTransaction();
cashRegister.scan('choclate',3);

//Show the total bill
console.log('Your bill is '+cashRegister.total);

#2

I think it should work if you remove the "this" from all of the lastTransactionAmount's.

#3

Everything's perfect.
Maybe there is some spelling mistake or a missing colon or semicolon

#4

instead of chocolate. Maybe this is it?

#5

Thank you! I'm an idiot. I should really work on checking to make sure everything is spelled correctly.
Thank you again

#6

Hi there,
I did get my code to work, but there is one thing I do not understand.
in this segment, which is precomposed by the lesson:
scan: function(item,quantity) {
switch (item) {
case "eggs": this.add(0.98 * quantity); break;
case "milk": this.add(1.23 * quantity); break;
case "magazine": this.add(4.99 * quantity); break;
case "chocolate": this.add(0.45 * quantity); break;
}
return true;

why is there the - return true; - statement?
I tried the code without it, and it runs just fine.
does it have something to do with the missing (not needed) default case?

here is my complete code:

var cashRegister = {
total:0,
lastTransactionAmount:0,
//Dont forget to add your property
add: function(itemCost) {
this.total += itemCost;
lastTransactionAmount = itemCost;
},
scan: function(item,quantity) {
switch (item) {
case "eggs": this.add(0.98 * quantity); break;
case "milk": this.add(1.23 * quantity); break;
case "magazine": this.add(4.99 * quantity); break;
case "chocolate": this.add(0.45 * quantity); break;
}
return true;
},
//Add the voidLastTransaction Method here
voidLastTransaction: function() {
this.total -= lastTransactionAmount;
}

};

cashRegister.scan('eggs',1);
cashRegister.scan('milk',1);
cashRegister.scan('magazine',1);
cashRegister.scan('chocolate',4);

//Void the last transaction and then add 3 instead
cashRegister.voidLastTransaction();
cashRegister.scan('chocolate',3);

//Show the total bill
console.log('Your bill is '+cashRegister.total);
