2D lists and zipped lists differences

Is there any difference between a 2D list and a zipped list that combines two lists?
If there are differences can you help me pointing them?

Thank you for your help

A 2D list is a list of lists, [[1, 2], [3, 4], [5, 6]], whereas zip() will create a list of tuples, [(1, 2), (3, 4), (5, 6)]. Depending on your purposes, they can be functionally the same; however, the tuples are immutable (cannot be modified in place), but the sublists are mutable (can be modified in place)
