@javablaster14048,
Please re-edit the Post as the indentation used is important

Please re-edit your Post

  • leave one blank-line above of your code
  • select your code in the Post
  • then =click= on the </>-symbol-of-this-editor

Your code will then be in a pre-code state
and you will be able to make/present the proper indentations.

or even better use
= How do I format code in my posts?

@javablaster14048,

You are using an invalid IF ELSE ELIF structure

def random_col(board):
 return randint(0, len(board) - 1)

ship_row = random_row(board)
ship_col = random_col(board)
guess_row = int(raw_input("Guess Row:"))
guess_col = int(raw_input("Guess Col:"))

print ship_row
print ship_col

if(guess_row==ship_row and guess_col ==ship_col):
 print "Congratulations! You sank my battleship!"
else:
 if guess_row not in range(5) or guess_col not in range(5):
  print "Oops, that's not even in the ocean."
 else: <<<<==== AFTER this an ELIF is not possible anymore !!!!
  print "You missed my battleship!"
  board [guess_row] [guess_col] == 'X'
  print_board(board)
 elif board[guess_row]=='X' and board[guess_col]=='X':
  #elif is the problem.
  print "You guessed that one already."
  print board[guess_row][guess_col]
 else:
  print "You missed my battleship!"
  board[guess_row][guess_col] = 'X'
  print print_board(board)

Hello,

I think it’s like that:
elif board[guess_row][guess_col] == “X”:
print “You guessed that one already.”

Best regards
