this is what you wrote:

Write your code below!

if guess_row == ship_row and guess_col == ship_col:
print "Congratulations! You sank my battleship!"
else:
print "You missed my battleship!"
if guess_row not in range(5) or \
guess_col not in range(5):
print "Oops, that's not even in the ocean."
else:
print "You missed my battleship!"
elif(guess_row and guess_col=="X"):
print "you guessed that one already."
board[guess_row][guess_col] = "X"
print_board(board)

take your elif statement and replace your first else statement with it (likes to have else as last statement instead of elif), also you need a capital Y on "You guessed that one already"(it's really picky in this one for some reason)

this works:

if guess_row == ship_row and guess_col == ship_col:
print "Congratulations! You sank my battleship!"
elif(guess_row and guess_col=="X"):
print "You guessed that one already."
if guess_row not in range(5) or guess_col not in range(5):
print "Oops, that's not even in the ocean."
else:
print "You missed my battleship!"

board[guess_row][guess_col] = "X"
print_board(board)

You should put elif statement before first else statement.

Something like this:

if guess_row == ship_row and guess_col == ship_col:
print "Congratulations! You sank my battleship"
elif board[guess_row][guess_col] == "X":
print "You guessed that one already."
else:
print "You missed my battleship!"
board[guess_row][guess_col] = "X"
print_board(board)
