Not a question about the code.

What is a prototype? Everywhere I look I hear what it does or what interacts with it, but I still don't understand what it is. From what I gather it's the properties that you create when making a constructor function, but I'm not sure.

googleing just returns this: All JavaScript objects inherit the properties and methods from their prototype. Objects created using an object literal, or with new Object(), inherit from a prototype called Object.prototype.

Hopefully these help. I have used prototype in JS, but I don't know really how to explain it.
